Nicholas M. Vallas
1951-2026
Nicholas Michael Vallas, 74, passed away peacefully on July 5, with his beloved wife and sister-in-law by his side after a brief stay in hospital in Summerside.
Born and raised in Sydney, Nova Scotia, Nick moved to New Waterford before later making his home in PEI. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to caring for others through a remarkable career as an EMT, embalmer, and Registered Nurse. His work took him to Antigonish, Sydney, the United States, and Prince Edward Island, where he touched the lives of countless patients, families, and colleagues.
Nick was predeceased by his parents, Mike and Trudy Vallas (MacMullin); his father-in-law, Roderick MacKenzie; and his mother-in-law, Annie Jane MacKenzie.
He leaves behind the love of his life and best friend of 32 years, Shirley (MacKenzie); his stepson, Leo MacKenzie; his cherished grandchildren, Michael MacKenzie and Brinley MacKenzie; and his great-granddaughter, Mya MacKenzie. He is also survived by his sister, Jo Ann (Jim) Campbell; his nieces, Dayna Hepper, Laura Campbell, and Jamie Egret; his lifelong friend of more than 50 years, Roger Savoie; as well as several nieces, cousins, extended family members, and in-laws.
Outside of his professional life, Nick enjoyed many of the simple pleasures that brought people together. Following in his parents' footsteps, he loved golfing, bowling, and playing cards. His regular visits home to Cape Breton and his frequent phone calls to his sister, Jo Ann, will be dearly missed.
Nick will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor, his love of practical jokes, and his talent for playfully tormenting those he cared about most. His infectious laughter, generous spirit, and genuine kindness brightened the lives of so many. Though he will be deeply missed, his memory will be treasured by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial service will be held at Davison Funeral Home in Kensington. Visitation will take place on July 10, 2026 from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 2:00 p.m.
