R. Elmer MacDonald

1943-2025

R. Elmer MacDonald

The death occurred peacefully at his home in Augustine Cove on January 27, 2025, of R. Elmer MacDonald, in his 82nd year. He is survived by his wife, Annie Lee (Fyfe); his son, Duane (Sara); and daughters, Karen (Fraser) MacKay and Canda (Jason) MacNeill.

He is also survived by five grandchildren—Colin and Keir (Rylie) MacKay, Skye and Shamus MacNeill, and Angus MacDonald—and two great-grandchildren, Blythe and Asa MacKay. He leaves behind a brother, Earle (JoAnn), and numerous nieces and nephews. His sisters-in-law, Beryl Fyfe and Mary (Francis) Moase, and brother-in-law, Donald (Jeannie), also survive him. He was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Marie MacDonald, and his sister-in-law, Vivian Fyfe. In addition to his beloved family, Elmer leaves behind many cherished friends, both from his personal life and from those he worked with over the years.

For Elmer, being actively involved in his community was simply a way of life. Whether through his home church, local community efforts, or national committees, he dedicated much of his life to service.

Elmer served with numerous organizations throughout the years. He found great joy in his involvement with the Crapaud Exhibition, where he played an instrumental role in bringing the PEI Truck and Tractor Pulling Championships to Crapaud. He also served as national president of the Canadian Horticultural Council and the Canadian Association of Fairs and Exhibitions.

He was honoured to be asked by several PEI governments to serve on various committees, including the Royal Commission on the Land, the Round Table on Land Use and Stewardship, and the Task Force on Agriculture.

Elmer was inducted into the Agricultural Hall of Fame in Truro, received the Order of PEI, and was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellowship.
