The Davison Funeral Home was founded in 1935, by Joseph L. Davison (1901-1991) who operated the funeral home in a location on the main street of Kensington. Hillard Woodside became employed with the firm and continued to work with Mr. Davison until July of 1979 when the funeral home was sold to Ira M. Moase. Mr. Woodside continued to work at the funeral home until his retirement in 1980 where he continued to work part time until his death in October 30, 1989.
On August 1, 1979 Ira M. Moase and his wife Judy (nee Clark) opened the Davison Funeral Home at its present location at 7 Sunset Drive. Ira had previously worked with his father Carl C. Moase and brother at the Moase Funeral Home in Summerside receiving his embalmers license in 1971. In May 1990, John W. MacIsaac became employed with the funeral home and received his embalmers license in 1993. After Ira’s passing in 2021 the funeral home continues to operate under the leadership of Judy, John and their staff.
A chapel with seating for close to 300 people was added to the building in 1988. With the sound system serving the whole building, extra seating can be used within the funeral home to accommodate as many as 500 people for a service. 1994 extensive renovations were performed to increase the size and facilities of the building. The building now has a modern spacious atmosphere.
The funeral home is a member of the Prince Edward Island Funeral Directors and Embalmers Association, The Funeral Service Association of Canada, The Canadian Independent Group of Funeral Homes, The Kensington and Area Chamber of Commerce and the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.
