Doris E. Powell U.E.

1931-2024

Doris E. Powell U.E.

Doris’s radiant smile was the light in the room.

Her laughter was a gift of the soul.

On Saturday, March 16th at Clinton View Lodge, Doris had just finished her requested coffee and breakfast in bed. At 10 a.m. as she was happily studying her collection of family photos she heard God’s Call and peacefully answered the Call. Doris was 93 years old.

Doris was born in St. Lambert Quebec to Marjorie and Gordon Collver.  She met the love of her life David, in Kingston Ontario.  They married on July 2nd 1954 in Ottawa. As they began their life together their "havens" were many;  Kirkland Lake, Rexdale, Hespeler, Oshawa, Cochrane-Drury Park cottage, Cochrane -newly constructed home.  They lived in Cochrane Ontario for 20 years then retired and moved to their "Seventh Haven" on Wigmore Rd. They have lived at "Seventh Haven" for 39 years.

Perhaps you knew Doris as your School Teacher or have fond memories of her as your Sunday School Teacher, Music Teacher or CGIT or Explorer Leader?  It is possible that you met Doris when you served together on a Committee, attended a U.C.W. or W.I. meeting, attended New London or Margate United Church or sang with her in Church Choir?  Maybe you shared Doris’s passion for the study of the life and works of Lucy Maud Montgomery?  Perhaps, as a proud Collver descendant, you were treated to Doris’s expert presentation skills as she recounted the Collver United Empire Loyalist History, another of her passions.  Perhaps you met Doris when she was "Mrs. Geppetto". Doris worked alongside her husband David, (Mr. Geppetto) to create and entertain the young and young at heart with their handcrafted puppets and marionettes at "Geppetto’s Workshop" on Wigmore Rd.

If you knew Doris, you experienced her kindness, were in awe of her numerous talents, admired her dedication, devotion and selflessness, basked in the glow of her boundless enthusiasm and were grateful for her limitless patience. Doris lived her life joyfully and peacefully with great gentleness and goodness.

Our family is so blessed to have loved and have been loved by such a pure and gentle spirit.

She was the most loving and devoted wife of 70 years to David. They shared the most True and Perfect love.

Doris was the most loving big Sister to Enid (Erle) and Brother Arthur (Vivian), most loving Mother to Allan (Nancy), Wendy (Jason),Della (Gary), Linda (Norman), Stephen (Mary), most loving Grandma to Bronwyn, Emily (Billy), Bryson, Jenna (Brett), Brittany, Tegan, Devianne, Makayla, Kristian and Kaelynn (Lucas), most loving Great Grandmother of 4 adorable boys, Cooper and Dawson (Jenna and Brett) and Matteo and Nicolas (Kaelynn and Lucas), and the most loving Aunt to  all her nieces and nephews.

Doris let her light shine before others.

His spirit resided in her so she could reflect His brilliant light.

We look forward to sharing memories of Doris’s Light and Life at a Memorial Service to be held Saturday May 11,2024 at 2 p.m. at the South West River United Church Margate.
