The Reverend Canon William Eric Ingraham

1929-2017

The Reverend Canon William Eric Ingraham

The Reverend Canon William Eric Ingraham, BA, LTh, BDiv passed away peacefully on December 7, 2017 at St. Vincent’s Nursing Home in Halifax at the age of 88. He was born in Calgary, AB on July 2, 1929, son of the late Frances Jane (Lewis) and David Roy Ingraham. Following his education in Louisburg and Sydney, he accepted a calling to the Christian ministry, training at the University of King’s College and Atlantic School of Theology in Halifax. He served in Anglican parishes in Glace Bay (NS), Kensington (PEI), Halifax, Yarmouth, Bridgewater, and Truro (NS), finally returning to Summerside (PEI) before his retirement to the beautiful shores of Sea View (PEI) in 1993. For the last four years of his life, Eric resided at Drumlin Hills, Bridgewater, NS and, latterly, at St. Vincent’s.

He believed that his most important contributions to parish ministry were in areas of visitation, youth, ecumenical fellowship, and focus on financial stability and stewardship.

Eric’s family and ministry were his life; to the end of his days, these provided him with profound comfort and joy. Eric met his wife Dorothy Jean (Murphy) in 1955 in Sea View, PEI and they were married in 1956. Dorothy predeceased him on October 19, 2009 after 53 years of marriage. They are survived by their three daughters and their families: Myrtle Jane and Mark Burton (Bridgewater, NS), Elizabeth and Wayne Tumblin (Bridgewater, NS), Mary Ingraham and David Owen (Edmonton, AB and Gabriola, BC). He delighted also in his grandchildren: Laura (Ian Whynacht), Colin (Sheri) Burton, Sarah (Devon Guile), Ben (Lindsay) Tumblin, Emily Tumblin (Wyatt Garrioch); and great-grandchildren Callum and Cadence Whynacht, Addison and Owen Tumblin, Elliot Burton, and Ophelia Guile.
