Margaret Kennedy

1926-2017

Margaret Kennedy

A Celebration of Life - Saturday August 19, 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. will be held at the Murray Christian Centre of Kensington United Church, 17 School St.

Margaret's family invite all who knew her to attend and share in the many memories of a life well lived. Refreshments will be provided.

Margaret Kennedy died peacefully, Wednesday, July 12, 2017, age 90, at the Prince County Hospital, Summerside, with three of her loving children by her side.

Born in Tyne Valley, Dec. 6, 1926 to the late Thomas and Lucy (Birch) Nisbet, Margaret graduated from Prince of Wales College, married Ron Kennedy (1951) and lived in Kensington where a very active family of six children was raised, all of whom she was very proud: Debbie (Jim Ferguson), Sechelt, BC; Peggy (Grant Gibson), Summerside, PEI; Michael (Carrie Gleason), Mississauga, Ont.; Tom (Wendy Holland), Airdrie, Alb.; Kathy, Summerside, PEI; and Karen (Don Richardson), Guelph, Ont..   She greatly enjoyed her grandchildren: Emily, Kyle, and Meghan Gibson; Chelsea, Nigel and Julian Kennedy; Scott, Todd, Matthew and Kayla Kennedy; and Jack and Molly Richardson.

Margaret worked in the business office at Prince County Hospital and moved to Summerside in her later years. She is survived by her sister Helen (Shel) MacKay, Holland Landing, Ont., and brother Ron (Olga) Nisbet, Oakville, Ont., and numerous nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her brothers Jack, Warren and Arnold and her sisters Lucy (Stanley) Forbes and Betty (Jim) Nicholson.

Margaret was a completely unpretentious and resilient woman who embodied many other admirable Islander traits including humility, perseverance, warmth, and a charming sense of humour. Her hobbies included a fantastic collection of the "Three Wise Monkeys", beautiful watercolour painting, and extensive genealogy work on the Nisbet and Kennedy families. She will be sadly missed and very fondly remembered by all who knew her, and she would be very embarrassed by this honest description of a sweet woman who asked for nothing and gave all that she could.

The family extends their sincere thanks for the loving care given by all during her stay in hospital.
